Brazil has almost 8000 kms of Atlantic coastline so it’s no wonder the country offers up some great waves and some wonderful opportunities for surfing.
The laid back Brazilian lifestyle, beach culture, lovely climate and great water temperature make Brazil a great place to surf.
There is some excellent surf in Bahia as well as near Pipa beach and Porto de Galinhas but the major surfing centres are located between Rio de Janeiro and Florianopolis, with both these major cities offering good waves. In Rio the best surf beach is out at the southern beach of Prainha or just north of the city at Saquarema whereas in Florianopolis the best breaks are generally found at Praia do Rosa or Praia Mole. Both cities have a strong surfing culture and consistent waves, particularly between April and September when these spots in the south catch east to south swells produced from the Antarctic. Other popular spots in the south are Maresias, Ubatuba and Ilha Grande to name but a few.
There are very few reef breaks in Brazil but one place which does catch them is the paradise islands of Fernando de Noronha which from November to March catches huge northern swells. The islands are also world renowned for scuba diving.
We are able to arrange surf lessons or simply accommodation down by the beach if you want to incorporate surfing in your Brazil holiday.
