This Brazil holiday showcases the stunning ecological highlights that lie between Iguassu Falls and Rio de Janeiro, namely the eco-tourism capital of Brazil, Bonito, and the wetlands of the southern Pantanal. It’s a fabulous introduction for first time visitors to Brazil illustrating the natural world, wildlife, adventure activities and the most picturesque city in the world.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Iguassu Falls

Fly overnight to Iguassu Falls where upon arrival you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel.

The remainder of the day will be free for you to relax or explore the Brazilian Falls from your hotel and within the park is approximately a mile of boardwalks which snake through the trees and allow you to get close up to the full force of the waterfalls and also see an abundance of wildlife such as coatis or toucans.

Day 2 – Iguassu Falls

After breakfast you will again be met by your guide for a private tour of the falls from the Argentinean side which offers a completely different view of the falls. Once in the national park there are two ecological trains which are perfect to take you around the parks attractions taking you eventually to the Devils Throat Station for the best view of the falls.

If you really want to get close to the falls then board the La Gran Aventura boat and get to the base of the falls and feel their incredible force.

Day 3 – The Pantanal

This morning a guide will meet you and transfer you to the airport for a flight to Campo Grande, the access point to the southern Pantanal. On arrival a guide will transfer you to Aquidauana where a light aircraft will take you on a 45 minute flight into the heart of the Pantanal and to your lodge for the next 4 nights.

Day 4-6 – The Pantanal

The few days will be a mix of relaxation and activities in the Pantanal. You will enjoy canoe tours, horse riding, nocturnal spotlighting, photographic safaris and caiman spotting.

Activities will begin early in the morning to make the most of the best part of the day and before the temperature warms up too much so that you can enjoy two daylight tours each day plus an evening activity.

Day 7 Bonito

This morning you will enjoy a final tour in the Pantanal and then after lunch you will board a private flight back to Aquidauana where a car will be waiting for you to take you on to Bonito, a 3 hour drive.

On arrival in Bonito your guide will help you check in for the next 3 nights.

The Pousada Aguas de Bonito is a beautiful property and a perfect base from which to explore Bonito, the eco-tourism capital of Brazil. The hotel has three types of bedrooms; Deluxe, Superior deluxe and Special deluxe. The Deluxe rooms are more basic yet still with air conditioning, a 20 inch TV, refrigerator and digital safe and offer double, triple, and quadruple rooms. The Superior deluxe rooms are located on the upper floor of the hotel with a better bed and also a larger television whilst the 4 special deluxe rooms are solely for couples and offer private balconies and an all round better standard of decoration. For relaxation the hotel offers a heated pool and spa, a sauna and TV lounge whilst for families there is a children’s play room, playground and games area.

Day 8 Bonito

Today your guide will take you to the Boca da Onça Watefalls for a full day tour with lunch. The tour comprises a walk on a trail through the pristine forest, passing by more than ten crystal-clear waterfalls, the scenic Salobra River and bathing ponds in natural pools. The highlight is the indescribable Boca da Onça waterfall, near where you will also be able to go for a swim. It is 156 metres (512 ft) high; making it the State’s highest. It also offers a breathtaking view of the Bodoquena Mountain Range. At the end of the tour you will be transferred back to Bonito.

Day 9 Bonito

Today your guide will take you one of the highlights of the Bonito area, the Rio da Prata, where you can snorkel in the clear waters of the Rio da Prata and Olho d’Água River following a walk through forest, observing birds and others wild animals. Snorkel inside an immense natural aquarium of crystalline waters, rich in plant and animal life.

Lunch will follow and on the return to Bonito stop to visit to Buraco das Araras. Here you can hike on a trail around South America’s largest sinkhole, 124 metres (407 ft) deep with a diameter of 500 metres (1640 ft), enabling a panoramic view of its interior where Red-and-green Macaws and other birds build their nests. It is possible to see a lagoon inside and some caimans that live there. A spectacular setting.

At the end of the tour you will be transferred back to the hotel for the evening.

Day 10 Bonito / Rio de Janeiro

This morning you will check out and your guide will take you to the Gruta do Lago Azul, discovered by a Terenan Indian in 1924, the cave has a blue lake with dimensions that make it one of Earth’s biggest flooded caves. In 1992 a Brazilian expedition of divers found a series mammal fossils – such as the Sabre Tooth Tiger and the Sloth – that lived during the Pleistoceno Period – 6,000 to 10,000 years ago).

At the end of the tour you will be transferred back to Campo Grande airport for a flight to Rio de Janeiro where you guide will meet you and take you to your hotel for the next 3 nights.

The Porto Bay Hotel has a great location and offers three room types; superior, deluxe and suites, all of which are immaculately presented and either have views of the bay or of the city. The restaurant in the hotel offers fabulous food but also a wonderful panoramic view over Copacabana beach whereas the Bar Limone is the perfect spot for a caipirinha or for a bit of dancing. Everyone will love the rooftop. Complete with pool and bar with superb views of Sugar Loaf and Copacabana beach this is a great place to spend a few hours, lazing in the sun or sipping cocktails as the sun goes down.

Day 11 Rio de Janeiro

After breakfast you will be met by your private English speaking guide and depart for Corcovado to see the most famous of all images of Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The views from the top are breathtaking and make you realise why Rio is considered by many as the most beautiful city in the world. The afternoon will be then free for you to explore independently or relax on the beach.

Day 12 Rio de Janeiro

This morning is at your leisure. Relax on one of the city’s many beaches, explore the historic centre, meander round the cobbled streets of Santa Teresa or amble around the Botanical gardens. The city has ample to keep you entertained for many a day. After a morning of exploring the historical centre perhaps treat yourself to high tea amidst the opulent elegance of the Confeitaria Colombo.

After lunch you will head off to explore Sugar Loaf Mountain. This granite rock is an iconic Rio landmark and from the top you’ll once again have the most wonderful views of the whole city, it’s beaches and a breathtaking view of Guanabara Bay. It’s a great place to watch the sun set over the city, sipping a caipirinha. The evening will then be free for you to relax.

Day 13

Today will be free for you to explore Rio de Janeiro independently before in the early evening a driver will transfer you back to the airport for your flight home.
